KAAL-TV to debut HD newscast out of new Rochester studio

(THE MED CITY BEAT) - KAAL-TV will take a major step forward Saturday with its first high-definition broadcast out of its new Rochester studio.

KAAL recently completed its move to a new $1 million facility in the TJ Maxx Plaza near U.S. 52 in southwest Rochester. The new building will house most of the station's business and news operations, which had been split between Austin and Rochester.

Though the station will keep a couple reporters at its Austin location, the move will finalize a years-long shift in focus toward the growing Rochester area, which is now dominated by market-leader KTTC-TV.

Employees say there are still some kinks to work out and that Saturday's launch will be "very basic." KAAL was the last of the three local stations to upgrade to HD programming.
