(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Seven pets were killed in a fire Saturday night in northwest Rochester.

The Post-Bulletin reports firefighters were called to the 5700 block of Shetland Drive around 7:15 p.m. to a report of a fire in a basement utility closet. The family reportedly arrived home and found their house filled with heavy smoke.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the basement. All seven people in the home were able to make it out safely.

Damage is estimated at $75,000 to $100,000. KAAL-TV reports the fire was caused by a pile of laundry left near a water heater.
