Man wanted for stealing hundreds of dollars in Magic cards
Rochester police are looking for a suspect who they say stole a set of playing cards and sold them to a local business in exchange for hundreds in cash.
The incident was reported to authorities Thursday around 7:30 p.m. A Cresco, Iowa man said he traveled to Rochester to sell some Magic playing cards to a prospective buyer he met through Craiglist.
He arranged to meet with the suspect in the parking of lot of the Apache Mall. But when the man got out of the car, the suspect ran up, grabbed the cards and took off in a rusty white pick-up truck.
After reporting the incident to police, the man called Hobby Goblins on 37th Street NE to warn the store that his cards had been stolen. However, by that time it was too late. The suspect, along with another man, had already sold the cards to the store for $600.
According to police, the suspect had been communicating with the store throughout the day to alert them that he would be bringing the cards in.
The cards have since been returned to their original owner. Police describe the suspect as a small black male, age 25-30, with thin "short-cropped" hair.
