Police: Man with kids 'randomly' threatened outside Hy-Vee North

Authorities say a 47-year-old man was walking with his two children outside a Rochester grocery on Monday when a stranger randomly came over and started threatening him.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. at the Hy-Vee North on 37th Street NW. The suspect went up to the man and began cursing at him, saying "I'll blow your fucking head off," according to a police report.

The man — who told police he was ex-military and probably could have taken the suspect down — rushed his kids, ages 4 and 7, into his vehicle and called 911.

The suspect, described as a white male, 6'2", about 250 pounds, took off in a maroon truck. However, Rochester Police Capt. John Sherwin said Tuesday that investigators have a "good idea" of who the suspect is. The man in question has prior psychological problems, he said.
