Rochester woman awakes to find stranger sleeping on her couch

A Rochester woman woke up Tuesday night to find a stranger in her home. Fortunately, the intruder wasn't interested in taking anything or hurting anyone.

Police responded to the 1200 block of 4th Street NW around 9 p.m. The caller stated that a man had entered her residence and was sleeping on the couch.

The intruder, who was celebrating his 50th birthday, had apparently been looking for a party in the neighborhood. He told police that he had been out drinking at a nearby bar prior to entering the residence.

According to the police report: the man knocked on the door; when no one answered, he assumed it was a surprise party for him. He then entered the unlocked home; when he didn't see anyone inside, he figured they all must have went to bed.

Nothing was taken from the home. The man was given a ride to detox and cited for trespassing. No further charges are expected.
