Crime beat: Police investigating burglary at a downtown church

Local authorities are looking for a suspect who stole about $1,500 worth of electronics from the Church of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Rochester.

The burglary happened last Monday but was not reported to police until Friday. The suspect got away with a Blu-ray player, projector, speakers and other equipment.

According to the police report, the suspect made two separate trips into the church, one at 9 p.m. and the other about three hours later.

The suspect was described as a white male wearing dark clothing. Police are reviewing security video but have not released the footage to the media.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Rochester & Olmsted County at 1-800-222-TIPS. You can remain anonymous.

Second shooting arrest

Police have made a second arrest in connection to last week's drive-by shooting in northwest Rochester.

Sean Biren, 37, faces charges of aiding and abetting a criminal. He was arrested Friday afternoon at his home in the 2200 block of 18 1/2 Avenue NW. Inside his residence, authorities found the semi-automatic rifle used in the shooting.

Investigators believe Biren may have also been involved in the manufacturing of synthetic marijuana. Last Wednesday, police confiscated about 30 pounds of synthetic pot from a storage unit belonging to the alleged shooter, 39-year-old Joshua Cunningham.
