Crime beat: Vehicle stolen from Rochester woman's garage

A local woman had her car stolen from her garage over the weekend, according to a report released Tuesday by Rochester police.

The white 2014 GMC Acadia (shown above) was taken from the 4800 block of 19th Avenue NW sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.

The woman told police that her keys were missing from her purse, which was located in the same room she was sleeping in. There were no signs of forced entry, says the report.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Rochester & Olmsted County at 1-800-222-TIPS. You can remain anonymous.

Vehicle theft arrest

In an unrelated incident, police arrested a man on Monday for stealing a car from a business in the 1200 block of Eastgate Drive SE.

Justin Morris, 19, faces several charges related to auto theft.

According to police, Morris took off with the vehicle around 11 a.m. He was arrested about two hours later after an officer spotted him driving the vehicle on North Broadway.

There were two other occupants in the vehicle, a 17-year-old male and a 16-year-old female, notes the report. Neither were arrested.

Morris was already on probation for a prior auto theft. He told police that he was "borrowing" the car for a job interview.
