Crime beat: Man arrested in undercover child prostitution sting
Rochester police arrested a Pine Island man Thursday after he agreed to have sex with undercover officers posing as a teen girl.
Joshua Johnson, 38, responded to an online ad for sex with a girl between the ages of 13-15, according to the police report. He also sent several nude photos to undercover officers.
Police say they were in communication with Johnson for a few weeks before making the arrest. Authorities in Goodhue County assisted the department in conducting a search warrant of his residence.
Court records show Johnson was sentenced to 98 months in a state correctional institute in 2001 for criminal sexual conduct with a child under 13 years old.
The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary in the 1300 block of 75th Street NW. According to the homeowner, the theft happened between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 30. The burglary was not reported until recently.
According to the report, the owner — who was preparing the house for sale — left the door open for a service worker. When she returned to the home, she noticed about $1,900 worth of computers and other electronic equipment were missing.
There were a couple teenagers in the area, notes the report. The deputy spoke to one of the individuals, who denied involvement but refused to let authorities search his home.
There was also a burglary reported around noon Thursday at the intersection of 26th Street and 25th Avenue NW. Information about the incident was not available Friday morning.
