UMR instructor arrested in child porn case will not be allowed near students

(THE MED CITY BEAT) - A chemistry instructor at the University of Minnesota Rochester is one of seven men facing felony charges for possessing and distributing child pornography.

Christopher Dezutter, 47, was arrested following a 10-month investigation by local, state and federal authorities. He has been an employee at UMR since August 2011.

The school is aware of the investigation and is in the process of gathering more information, according to a spokesperson for the University of Minnesota system. In the meantime, Dezutter will not be allowed in the classroom or near students.

Those who had direct contact with Dezutter will be contacted and offered counseling, if needed.

Dezutter, who has a doctorate from the University of Illinois at Chicago, taught at East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Ill. prior to taking a job at UMR.
