Two major robberies reported in Rochester on Wednesday
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Rochester police responded to two costly robberies within a few hours of each other on Wednesday evening.
Three men were able to escape with a $28,000 necklace by distracting a clerk at a jewelry store in the subway of the Kahler Grand Hotel.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. at Aesthetic Resources and Technologies.
One of the suspects asked the female employee to show him a bracelet. While the woman was assisting the suspect, another man grabbed the display key, unlocked the case and grabbed the 456-diamond necklace.
Police say one of the suspects tried to take off with the bracelet, but the clerk was able to grab it out of the man's pocket. All three suspects took off through a door on Second Avenue SW.
The employee was not injured in the incident.
Police believe the suspects may be part of an organized group. Investigators have issued a statewide alert asking for help to identify the suspects.
A woman visiting Rochester from Kuwait was thrown to the ground and robbed outside the Apache Mall around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say the 52-year-old woman was leaving Macy's when a man pushed her down, grabbed her purse and ran out the door. The contents of the purse were valued at around $10,000.
The woman was not seriously injured.
The suspect is described as a thin black male, about six feet tall, with scruffy facial hair.
Anyone with information on either incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or 507-328-6915.
