Two dead following crash on Highway 52 near Zumbrota

(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Two people were killed in a crash Friday night on U.S. 52 just north of Zumbrota.

The Minnesota State Patrol has identified the deceased as Juan Martinez, 47, of Valrico, Fla., and Aishia Ruiz, 23, of Minneapolis.

A third person — Paul Martinez, 22, of Rochester — was seriously injured and transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus for treatment.

The three were traveling southbound on the highway in a Chevy Impala when the car crossed the median and collided with a semi, according to the state patrol. A second semi then collided with the car while it was stalled in the northbound lane.

Neither of the two truck drivers suffered any apparent injuries.

The incident, which happened around 8:40 p.m, was one of two serious crashes on U.S. 52 within a half-hour Friday night.

A 54-year-old Minneapolis man suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a separate two-vehicle crash near the highway's intersection with Skunk Hollow Trail, just south of Cannon Falls.
