Investigators: Missing college student recently 'rediscovered' his faith

Investigators: Missing college student recently 'rediscovered' his faith

(THE MED CITY BEAT) - The Rochester Police Department wants to find out how much of a role, if any, religion played in the recent disappearance of 21-year-old college student William "Harry" Hempy.

Hempy, who was staying at his family's Rochester home while on break from the University of Illinois, was last heard from on March 25 around 4 p.m. He told his father in a phone call that he was going for a run and would not attend a prior commitment.

In the three weeks since then, local authorities have worked closely with Hempy's family, as well as investigators at the University of Illinois.

According to family and friends, Hempy recently rediscovered his religious beliefs and has been eager to share the Christian faith with others. Authorities are not certain religion played a role, but they would like to learn more about his mindset over the past few months.

Members of the public — especially those involved in a faith-based group that recently had contact with Hempy — are asked to contact Investigator Anne Swenson at (507) 328-6921.
