Volunteers picked up more than 15 tons of garbage in Rochester this month

(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Volunteers picked up 15.44 tons of trash and recyclables during this year's "A Litter Bit Better" campaign.

FYI: That's about the weight of five full pickup trucks.

More than 2,900 volunteers participated at nearly 240 sites in Rochester, according to the community resource group RNeighbors. The final tally included 27,000 pounds of trash and 3,800 pounds of recyclable material.

The combined total was nearly 10,000 pounds higher than last year's cleanup. Volunteers have picked up 110 tons of litter since the program began in 2007.
