Lightning strikes gas meter outside home in SW Rochester

(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Lightning struck a gas line outside a home in southwest Rochester early Thursday morning.

A homeowner in the 5000 block of Scenic Oak Drive SW requested emergency assistance around 12:45 a.m. after hearing a loud lightning struck. He also reported smelling burnt plastic, according to the fire department.

When firefighters arrived, they found that lightning had struck a gas meter outside the home. Crews quickly repaired the gas line, according to a report by the fire department.

No gas was discharged inside the home and no one was injured.

The lightning strike caused about $2,500 in damage to the home.
