Man arrested in connection to armed robbery in SE Rochester
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Police arrested a man Thursday for his alleged involvement in last week's armed robbery in SE Rochester.
Officers set up a parameter around 4:45 p.m. in the 1500 block of Fourth Avenue SE. Earlier, investigators received a tip that a man with the "same street name and physical description" was at the location, according to police.
When officers showed up to the apartment, one person let them in the home while the rest hid in the bedrooms. Police said one of those hiding was 28-year-old Liban Ahmed, the man they believe set up the armed robbery.
He faces felony charges of aggravated robbery, terroristic threats and theft.
The alleged robbery happened April 23 in the same neighborhood where Ahmed was arrested. The victim told officers that he originally parked his car in the area and arranged to meet a "friend," later identified as Ahmed.
But when Ahmed showed up, he was with two other men. The three men got in the victim's vehicle and demanded his money, according to police. At one point, Ahmed flashed a knife and told the victim, "this isn't a joke."
The suspects took off with the vehicle and "several thousand dollars" in cash. The vehicle has since been recovered.
The two other suspects involved in the robbery are still at large.
