Rochester man charged with sexually abusing a young child
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - A Rochester man appeared in court Tuesday on charges that he sexually abused a young child whom he knew.
Sean Walters, 21, has been charged with:
- First-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child
- Second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child
- Use of a minor in a sexual performance
The family of the victim, who is under 10 years old, first reported the alleged abuse to police Saturday afternoon. They told officers that Walters had admitted to inappropriately touching and photographing a young boy.
Walters allegedly told the family that he "messed up again," referring to the fact that he recently served time — and was currently seeking treatment — for a sex crime he committed as a juvenile.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim told his family about the alleged abuse the same day it happened. He said Walters pulled his pants down and touched his penis. Police later seized Walters' cell phone and found several images showing the boy standing naked in front of a mirror.
The sexual conduct charges each carry maximum sentences of more than 25 years. The max sentence for the pornography charge is 10 years.
