Rochester police issue alert following spike in bicycle thefts
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - The Rochester Police Department has issued an alert in response to a growing number of bike thefts in the downtown area.
Residents in the downtown and Kutzky Park neighborhoods received notices Friday evening regarding the recent spike in stolen bicycle cases. It's unclear precisely how many bikes have been stolen.
Police are urging residents to take extra measures when securing bikes; that includes using "high quality" locks. It's also important, authorities said, to record serial numbers and takes photographs of the bikes.
