Rochester man arrested for aggravated robbery following van theft
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - A Rochester man was arrested this week on charges of aggravated robbery and theft.
Tyler Kennedy, 25, is accused of assaulting a 19-year-old man and stealing his van. The alleged robbery happened Monday in the 1900 block of 8 1/2 Street SE.
According to a police report, Kennedy punched the victim (who happens to be his sister's boyfriend) in the face after the teen refused to give him a ride. Kennedy then took off with the victim's keys and $20 in cash.
The family tried to convince Kennedy to return the van before finally calling police on Thursday, notes the report.
Later that evening, an officer investigating a shoplifting complaint noticed the van outside a home in the 800 block of 13th Avenue NE. Two men, including Kennedy, came out of the home and tried to get in the vehicle.
The officer called for back up and arrested Kennedy.
According to the report, Kennedy told officers he recently ingested drugs and was pretending to try to pass out. He was transported to St. Mary's Hospital, but has since been relocated to a jail cell.
He faces two felony charges, including first-degree aggravated robbery.
