The abuse was first reported to authorities over the weekend by the child's mother. White had been watching the woman's child while she traveled out of town for work, according to the police report.

When she picked her child up, the woman told police that he was "walking funny with welts and bruises" from head to toe. The child was transported to St. Mary's Hospital, where medical workers found cuts all over his body. The boy's injuries were not life threatening.

White said he "disciplined" the child with a belt, notes the police report. One other child was in White's care but did not suffer injuries.

He's expected to make his first court appearance on Tuesday. Both charges carry maximum sentences of five years in prison.
