Man arrested after crashing stolen car outside north Rochester home
A Hayfield man was arrested Monday morning after crashing a stolen car outside a home in north Rochester.
The owner the home, located on River Bluffs Lane NW, called authorities around 6 a.m. to report that a vehicle had crashed into some trees near his driveway. The homeowner's description of a red Chevy Monte Carlo matched an earlier complaint for reckless driving.
The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Shane Anderson, ran away once officers arrived. Authorities, however, were able to track him down a short time later in a nearby creek.
According to the sheriff's office, Anderson tried to steal the homeowner's two vehicles before fleeing. The damage from tampering with the ignitions is estimated at $1,000.
He also tried unsuccessfully to break into a neighbor's home, authorities say.
Anderson faces several charges, including felonies for damage to property, possession of stolen property and 1st-degree burglary.
Investigators from the Rochester Police Department say Anderson stole the car earlier in the morning from the 2200 block of 2nd Street SW. The car's owner left the keys in the ignition.
There's no indication Anderson was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
