Sheriff's office: Girl, 7, airlifted after getting kicked in the head by a horse

A seven-year-old girl was airlifted to the hospital by Mayo One Wednesday afternoon after getting kicked in the head by a horse.

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. in the 8000 block of 11th Avenue NW in Oronoco Township. According to the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, the girl was attempting to get on the horse when the animal accidentally knocked her unconscious.

The girl's injuries are described as "very serious." Her current condition is unknown. Authorities say the girl, who is from Ashville, N.C., was in the area visiting relatives.
