Two men arrested for allegedly assaulting liquor store clerk

Two men were arrested Saturday evening for assaulting a liquor store clerk after the employee refused to replace a broken bottle of booze.

The incident was reported to police around 6:15 p.m. at Buckeye Liquor in downtown Rochester.

Police say Darren Brewster, 24 of Chicago, and Keith Lee, 25 of Stewartville, went into the store and made a purchase. But after they left the store, one of them dropped the glass bottle in the parking lot.

The men then went back into the store and demanded that the clerk give them another bottle. According to police, the men became aggressive so the clerk tried to grab a baseball bat behind the counter.

However, the suspects got to the bat first, then assaulted the clerk and took off with more booze.

Officers found them a short time later at a nearby gas station and took them into custody. Both men face felony charges of simple robbery and 5th-degree assault. Brewster also faces a charge for resisting arrest.
