Man assaulted with a knife outside his home in SE Rochester

A 40-year-old man was assaulted with a knife while trying to enter his home late Monday, according to Rochester police.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. at a home in the 1000 block of 3rd Avenue SE. The man said he was returning home with his three children when two males approached him.

One of the individuals, who was known to the victim, was allegedly armed with a knife. There were also two other males standing nearby.

The man pushed his daughter, 6, into the home and told her to call police. Using a football helmet as a shield, he was able to fend off the suspects.

He did sustain a minor cut to his arm, notes the police report. The two other children outside with him, boys ages 9 and 11, were not injured.

The suspects ran off but were located and arrested a short time later just a few blocks away.

The suspects, males ranging in age from 15 to 17, all face felony charges of 2nd-degree riot. The teen with the knife also faces a 2nd-degree assault charge.
