Drive-by shooting reported Sunday afternoon in SE Rochester

Police are searching for a suspect following a drive-by shooting Sunday afternoon in southeast Rochester.

The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. in the 800 block of 21st Avenue SE, near University Center Rochester.

According to a police report, a 19-year-old man was outside an apartment complex when the passenger of a vehicle fired a shot at him. The bullet did not hit the man and the car drove away.

There were multiple occupants in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. The vehicle was described as a small green car, possibly a foreign make.

Authorities believe the shooting was connected to a prior disturbance at the apartment complex. "This wasn't a random thing," said Rochester Police Capt. John Sherwin.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Rochester & Olmsted County at 1-800-222-TIPS. You can remain anonymous.
