Two arrests made in connection to drive-by shooting in SE Rochester
The Rochester Police Department announced on Friday that it has arrested two suspects in connection to last weekend's drive-by shooting in Rochester.
Bolus Dimbiti, 22, and Lance Giwa, 19, both of Rochester, are now in custody on felony riot charges. The shooting was reported around 5:15 p.m. Sunday outside an apartment complex in the 800 block of 21st Avenue SE, near University Center Rochester.
Police say Dimbiti and Giwi were part of a group that showed up to the building just before the shooting to confront some people who lived there. There had apparently been a large fight during a party at the residence the night before.
The group of men, armed with bats and sticks, were not able to enter the building.
As the suspects left the scene, they noticed a male who they believed was involved in the fight. According to the police: the suspects got back into the vehicle, traveled down the street, turned around, and drove back toward the apartment building.
As the vehicle passed, a passenger fired one shot in the direction of the male outside. No one was injured and no property was damaged.
The male who was fired at claimed he was not involved in the fight and did not know the suspects. However, police have not been able to confirm whether or not he was involved in a prior incident.
As of this writing, neither Dimbiti and Giwi are on the hook for any gun-related charges. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected to be made.
