2016 Election Podcasts: Candidates for Rochester City Council President

This is the final installment of our podcast series with local council candidates.

Incumbent: Randy Staver

Bio from campaign website: Randy Staver grew up in Rochester, attending school here as a proud graduate of Mayo High School. Randy continued his education by attending Winona State University where he obtained an undergraduate degree in Business Administration / Computer Science as well as a Master’s degree in Business Administration.

His professional career has also been in Rochester where he has worked for Analysts International Corporation, Metafile Information Systems and at Mayo Clinic where he's worked for over 30 years in areas including Information Technology, Management Engineering and Media Support Services.

Randy has been married to his wife, Sheila, for over 37 years. Together, they have raised three wonderful daughters who are now all married and have blessed them with three grandchildren.

Challenger: Sean Allen

Bio from campaign website: Sean Allen is a Rochester business person dedicated to the vibrancy and continued growth of Rochester while meeting the needs of all residents. Sean grew up in Northfield and graduated from St. Olaf College in 1993. After college, Sean served in the Peace Corps in Paraguay for more than two years, learning to speak Guarani and fluent Spanish. 

In 2001, Sean was asked to join the Rochester Area Foundation staff to lead the First Homes Initiative. As executive director of First Homes, Sean oversaw the creation and financing of more than 1,000 workforce housing units. Sean also developed the Imagine Kutzky initiative with Kutzky neighbors and through First Homes invested more than $20 million in the Kutzky Park neighborhood.

Since 2012, Sean has worked to build Midwest Landing, a private real estate development company with co-owner Kellie Mueller. He is also co-owner and internal consultant to the Kutzky Market/Forager Brewery.
