Police exploring possibility of trafficking after bust at massage parlor

Police exploring possibility of trafficking after bust at massage parlor

Police are investigating the possibility of sex trafficking after making a prostitution-related arrest at a massage parlor is southeast Rochester.

The 34-year-old Chicago woman was arrested Thursday for inappropriately touching an undercover officer during a massage at Asian Tuina Massage parlor. The advance was unsolicited, according to police.

The woman, who we are choosing not to identify, faces a gross misdemeanor charge for engaging in prostitution.

Police had been investigating the business for several months after learning it was operating unlicensed. Because the woman is from out of town, authorities are exploring the possibility of human trafficking.

Several people also appeared to be living at the business, notes the police report. Since the business is commercially zoned, the owners could also be cited for violating the city ordinance.

The owners of the parlor also operated another business investigated for prostitution last year. According to the government, more than 27 million people around the world are victimized by trafficking each year.
