Editor's pick: Rochester is best in U.S. for women in the workforce
Rochester is America's best city for women in the workforce.
That's according to a 2016 report published by the finance website NerdWallet. The analysis is based on factors such as women's earnings and workforce participation rate, as well as average rent costs.
According to census data, women's median earnings are 92.3 percent of men's, nearly 13 points higher than the national average of 79.8 percent. Additionally, Rochester women only spend 22.2 percent of their monthly earnings on rent.
Minneapolis and St. Paul finished second and third respectively.
Rochester's top ranking is a reflection of the role health care plays in the local economy. A recent survey found women make up 78.4 percent of jobs in the health care and social assistance industry.
Do we need to remind you that Rochester was also ranked America's best place to live for 2016? OK, probably not.
