'Three Little Birds' tell us the Wailers are playing Down by the Riverside

There's some star power coming to the popular Down by the Riverside concert series this summer. The Wailers, the band fronted by Bob Marley until his untimely death in 1981, are coming to Mayo Park on Aug. 7, the City of Rochester Music Department announced on Thursday.

Expect reggae hits such as "One Love," "Get Up, Stand Up" and "Is This Love?" to echo through the downtown area during the free concert.

Together with Bob Marley, The Wailers have sold more than 250 million albums. Legend, the best-selling reggae album of all time, ranked No. 46 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 2012 list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The anchor of the band is Aston “Family Man” Barrett, who in addition to being Marley’s most trusted lieutenant and co-producer, played on countless other classic reggae hits throughout the seventies.

The Wailers aren't the only big-name band that will make an appearance in Mayo Park for the 25th anniversary of the Down by the Riverside concert series; other headliners already announced include Soul Asylum, JD McPherson and Lucius. Additional performers will be be announced each week through June 2 on the Riverside Concerts Facebook page.

Down by the Riverside concerts run on Sundays at 7 p.m. from July 10 to Aug. 21 in Mayo Park, behind the Mayo Civic Center. All performances are free.
