Forum on opioid addiction scheduled for Rochester

Senator Amy Klobuchar's office will host a forum in Rochester this month focused on combating the opioid epidemic.

The event, which is open to the public, is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 15 at the University of Minnesota Rochester. Its one of several forums being hosted across the state that same week.

According to a news release, representatives from Klobuchar's office will "provide updates on the Senator’s work to support local efforts and hear firsthand from community leaders about resources needed to continue effectively responding at the local level."

The ongoing opioid crisis continues to plague communities across the country. Since 1999, the number of overdose deaths involving opioids (including prescription opioids and heroin) has quadrupled. Statistics from the federal government show that 91 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose. Last month, President Donald Trump declared the epidemic a "national health emergency."
