Rochester Public Library forgiving overdue fines — but for one week only

To kick off its new Summer Playlist program, the Rochester Public Library is doing something it has never done before — forgiving overdue library fines for an entire week.

Starting Monday, June 5 through Saturday, June 10, overdue library fines will be forgiven for any patron who stops by the library or Bookmobile. Fines will also be forgiven on individual items dropped off at the library after-hours book drop.

“Once the items are returned, if there’s a fine attached, it will be waived,” said Karen Lemke, the library's head of marketing and community engagement.

"Fine Forgiveness Week" is part of an effort to welcome back patrons who may not have been to the library for some time, particularly if overdue fines have become a barrier to checking out material.

“We wanted to welcome customers, and the books they may still have at home, back to the library to enjoy the summer with us,” said Lemke.
