Dayton announces two appointments to Destination Medical Center Board

Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed Paul D. Williams and Dana L. Bailey to serve on the Destination Medical Center Corporation Board

Williams will replace former chair Tina Smith, who resigned from the board late last year after being appointed to the U.S. Senate. The term ends in 2020. Bailey will replace Susan Rani on the board for a term ending in 2023.

“Mr. Williams has a proven record of success in the development of affordable housing and equitable communities, and Ms. Bailey has demonstrated an ability to bring diverse opinions together to drive economic development forward," Gov. Dayton said Tuesday in a statement. "Together, their expertise and unique perspectives will serve the Board well in its efforts to support the growth of ‘America’s City for Health’ in Rochester."

Williams has decades of experience in housing and local government. He previously served as the City of St. Paul’s Deputy Mayor from 2011 to 2014. He now runs Project for Pride in Living, a Twin Cities' nonprofit dedicated to empowering low-income people to become self-reliant.

Bailey, according to a news release, has nearly two decades of experience in community and stakeholder engagement and economic development. She served as chief of staff to St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman for three years, where she was responsible for helping push forward a plan to build a new professional soccer stadium there. She recently began a new role as executive director of Projects and Initiatives for Minnesota IT Services.

The eight-member DMC Corporation Board provides public oversight of the DMC initiative. Representatives are appointed by the governor, Mayo Clinic, the Rochester City Council and Olmsted County Board of Commissioners.
