Math festival added to downtown Rochester's 2018 calendar

A community math festival and live "paint off" are among the first-time events being planned for downtown Rochester in 2018.

On Monday, the Rochester Downtown Alliance announced the recipients of "Start-Up Grant" funding for 2018. The annual initiative provides seed money to groups looking to organize new events downtown.

This year, four events were awarded a total of $8,500 in funding. In addition to the funding, event organizers are also provided with a comprehensive first-time event planning guide from the RDA.

All of the events this year are free and open to the public.

Topics will be expressed through visual art, videography, spoken word, storytelling, and music. US TOO is organized by Regina Mustafa, Dawn Sanborn, and Pam Whitfield. Organizers say the goal of this event is to promote healing, question assumptions, combat victim shaming, and further discussion between communities in our region. This will be a free event, but preregistration is encouraged.
