Minnesota taxpayers can resume using TurboTax (updated)

(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Minnesota taxpayers can start using TurboTax again.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue announced Saturday afternoon that it will begin accepting tax returns using the online software as of 3 p.m.

The department had stopped accepting tax returns from TurboTax on Thursday due to "potentially fraudulent activity." The following day Intuit, which operates the software, announced it had stopped accepting state returns from all U.S. customers.

Most victims found out that a fraudulent tax return was submitted in their name when they received a rejection notice after filing their returns, said Intuit spokeswoman Julie Miller, according to a report by the AP.

Intuit has implemented new safeguards to protect against fraudulent activity, the company says. Minnesota officials will continue to monitor returns and remain in contact with the company.

Taxpayers who have already filed their returns using TurboTax will not need to do anything, according to the department of revenue.

Visit the department's website for a list of approved tax software companies.
