Report: Olmsted County has made full recovery from Great Recession

Olmsted County is one of 10 Minnesota counties that has made a full economic recovery from the Great Recession, according to a report released Tuesday by the National Association of Counties.

The report analyzed the performances of 3,069 counties using four metrics: jobs, unemployment rates, economic output and median home prices.

A total of 214 counties, including Olmsted, have recovered to pre-recession levels on all four indicators, the report says. While that number represents only 7 percent of all U.S. counties, it is nearly three times higher than this time last year.

"The data reveals that the economic recovery accelerated in 2015, especially on unemployment rates and home prices," notes the report. But it goes on to say that "most county economies still have not recovered to their pre-recession levels on jobs and unemployment."

Olmsted County's unemployment rate was at 3.2 percent at the end of last year, nearly two points below the national average. You can view the county's full economic profile below.
