University of Minnesota Rochester adding new option for nursing students

The University of Minnesota Rochester is adding a new option for one of the Med City's most in-demand fields — nursing.

Beginning in fall 2017, the university will be offering a Nursing Guarantee Option for students interested in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree through the University of Minnesota.

This means UMR students will have the opportunity to pursue a nursing degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities without having to leave the Rochester campus. Students in the program will complete all their required nursing practicum experiences at Mayo Clinic.

"Employers are seeking, and the nation is calling for, more nurses with four-year degrees who have excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills," Connie White Delaney, Dean of the University of Minnesota School of Nursing, said in a news release. "This new option gives qualified high school students in the region who seek a nursing career an option to complete this program in Rochester."

This Rochester-based nursing program is competitive and capacity will be limited, says the release.  High school students can apply to this program now for the fall 2017 entry term by visiting UMR's website.

UMR, the smallest school in the University of Minnesota system, offers two of its own baccalaureate degree programs: the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and the Bachelor of Science in Health Professions. It also offers four graduate degrees in conjunction with the Duluth and Twin Cities campuses.
