Micky Dolenz of The Monkees steps in for Down by the Riverside finale

Riverside Concerts is shaking things up for its summer series finale.

The organization announced Thursday that Micky Dolenz of the Monkees will replace the Guess Who's Burton Cummings atop the ticket for the Down by the Riverside finale on Aug. 13.

Cummings was originally scheduled to perform, but canceled in the eleventh hour due to a "personal scheduling conflict." (Guess Who fans still have the chance to see Cummings on Aug. 27 when he makes a stop at the Scott County Fairgrounds in Jordan, Minn.) It marks the first time in the 26-year history of the series that a headliner has canceled a scheduled performance.

In a statement released Thursday, Riverside Concerts general manager Steven Schmidt apologized for any inconvenience or disappointment the cancellation has caused.

"We, too, were very much looking forward to Mr. Cummings performance, but are equally thrilled to have a living legend of pop culture in Micky Dolenz of The Monkees and one of the best Beatles tribute bands out there in the Fab Four to bring the 2017 season of Think Mutual Bank's Down by the Riverside to a close," he said.

With a dozen top 20 singles and four No. 1 albums, The Monkees were one of the biggest pop groups of the 1960s. Many of their top hits — such as “I’m A Believer and “Daydream Believer" — still get radio airtime five decades later.

According to Riverside Concerts, "The Fab Four is elevated far above every other Beatles Tribute due to their precise attention to detail. With uncanny, note-for-note live renditions of Beatles' songs, the Fab Four will make you think you are watching the real thing."

The opening act will be the Rochester rock group the Nite Shift.

In addition to the finale, there are still two more shows remaining in this year's lineup: Living Colour on July 30 and Pert Near Sandstone on Aug. 6. All shows are free and open to the public.
