Warm weather won't melt plans for Rochester's 9th annual SocialICE

Warm weather won't melt plans for Rochester's 9th annual SocialICE

"We will move forward with the event as planned."

Those are the big words coming out of the offices of the Rochester Downtown Alliance today. For the second consecutive year, SocialICE is planned for a February weekend with unusually warm temperatures. Highs are projected to reach the mid to upper- 50s by Friday, the second day of the ice festival, and sustain through the weekend.

"The good news regarding the weather is that we are expecting to see lower lows that we had last year," said Jenna Bowman, the RDA's executive director. "We are also making some slight changes to placement – to help the longevity of the bars and sculptures."

Each of the bars is being built with more ice this year, which should assist with their durability, added Bowman.

"As always, we expect a great event – with DJs playing live each evening, delicious drinks and engaging lighting."

SocialICE runs three nights in a row, from Thursday to Saturday, in Rochester's Peace Plaza. The event is free to attend and open to the public. Learn more about the event here.
